A Warmer Future: Jackie’s Story

For nearly seventy years, Frank Thistlethwaite has lived in his Blackpool home. He knows every corner of the house, or so he thought. Then one day, flicking through the Blackpool Gazette, he spotted an article about Cosy Homes in Lancashire. Curious, he decided to get in touch.

Not long after, Chris from the Little Van of Warm service arrived at Frank’s door. Together they walked through the house, chatting about problem spots and possible improvements.

“The visit was great,” Frank says. “Chris was very, very helpful and explained things about this house that despite having lived here a long time, I didn’t know.”

As they moved room to room, Chris pointed out the small but important changes that could make a big difference.

“He showed me how much heat we lose to the back of a radiator and how he could prevent that,” Frank explains. “He also picked up on draughts under doors. Those were things I hadn’t realised made such an impact.”

One discovery stood out more than the rest.

“I’ve long suspected there was a problem with my cavity wall insulation,” Frank says. “Chris guided me to the guarantee people, since I do have it under guarantee, and suggested I take it up with them. I’m in the process of doing that now.”

For Frank, the visit was more than practical, it was also reassuring.

“If anyone was thinking of applying, I’d say don’t hesitate. I haven’t regretted it.”

Now, with draught-proofing in place and a clearer understanding of his home’s energy efficiency, Frank looks forward to warmer winters ahead.
