A Warmer Future: Jackie’s Story

30th September 2025

For years, Jackie’s winters were marked by cold nights, layers of blankets, and the constant worry of rising electricity bills. Living in Banbury Bridge near Chorley, Jackie, a full-time administrator, had made her home there for six years. But despite her efforts to stay comfortable, her house never truly felt like home in the colder months.

“There’s no gas in my street, and it was just too expensive to have it put in,” Jackie explains. “I relied on electricity, which was extremely expensive. Even with infrared heaters, I was always cold because I just couldn’t afford to put them on for long.”

That all changed the day she opened an envelope from Cosy Homes. Inside was a letter about the Home Upgrade Grant and a simple form asking what improvements she might like for her property. Jackie admits she was sceptical.

“I was surprised, to be honest. I thought because I worked full time, I wouldn’t qualify. But I ticked what I wanted, sent it back, and it turned out I could actually receive quite a few things.”

Among them was an air source heat pump. And it has transformed her life.

“My house is warmer than it’s ever, ever been,” she says with a smile. “I absolutely love it. It surprised me just how warm the house is, and how long it stays warm. I can walk around without worrying about switching heaters on or layering up. It feels amazing.”

Jackie’s gratitude is clear. “If it wasn’t for Cosy Homes, my house wouldn’t be as warm as it is now. Every winter, I know I’ll have a lovely warm home. Thank you, Cosy Homes.”

Her advice for others is simple and heartfelt: “If someone’s working full time and they’re thinking about applying for an air source heat pump, do it. Don’t even think twice. I didn’t think I’d get one because of my job, but I did. And I’m so happy I applied.”

For Jackie, what was once a struggle to get through the coldest months has turned into something she looks forward to. Winter, at last, means comfort.
