Good News for Air Source Heat Pump installations

30th May 2025

In a significant move to promote renewable technologies, the Government has lifted key planning restrictions, making it easier for homeowners to install Air Source Heat Pumps. This change is part of the broader Warm Homes Plan aimed at reducing household energy bills and cutting carbon emissions.

Important Changes

  • Removal of the One-Metre Rule: Previously, homeowners needed planning permission to install a heat pump within one metre of a neighbour’s property. This requirement has now been removed, making installations more straightforward, especially for those in terraced homes.

  • Relaxation of Size and Number Restrictions: The government has also eased rules concerning the size and number of heat pumps that can be installed, providing homeowners with greater flexibility.

Cosy Homes in Lancashire work in partnership with Global Energy Systems a Lancashire based installer and one of the only British manufacturers of Air Source Heat Pumps which are designed specifically for British weather. For more information go to their website.
