Seen or heard bad things about Air Source Heat Pumps? We have, too. But how much of it is true?

We want to sort fact from fiction to help you understand how air source heat pumps work and how they could benefit your home.

Myth 1: They’re too noisy
Fact: The noise from a heat pump is background noise, similar to the humming of a household fridge. Heat pumps mostly run in winter for heating and overnight for hot water.

Myth 2: They only work on new builds
Fact: They work no matter how old your home is. Just like a gas boiler, they'll heat any home when sized correctly based on the home's energy consumption.

Myth 3: They won’t work in winter
Fact: Yes, they do. Air source heat pumps work even when the temperature is down to -15°C.

Myth 4: My home needs insulating first
Fact: If you can insulate first, great. If not, it still works! Insulating first means your home needs less energy to keep it warm. You can still get a heat pump regardless.
