Frequently Asked Questions: Solar Panels
Solar panels capture sunlight throughout the day, generating DC electricity. This goes to an inverter, converting it into alternating current (AC) electricity. The AC electricity then powers your appliances with any excess stored in batteries or exported to the grid.
A typical household with a 3.5 kilowatt-peak system could save between £130 and £310 a year, depending on the Energy Price Cap rates.
Solar panels can still generate electricity without direct sunlight using photovoltaic cells. However, it might not be quite as efficient.
