Irene is 74 years old, and has lived in her ground floor flat in St. Anne’s since 1976.
Since moving in, Irene has had no central heating, and had been using a portable electric heater for warmth, which she moves from room to room when she needs to. When we first met Irene, she told us she doesn’t like people visiting her home, as it’s always cold, and she felt quite embarrassed about the damp within the property.
Recently, Irene had a fall at home and spent the following two weeks in Blackpool Victoria hospital.
On her return home, Irene received a home assessment visit from Lesley, a member of the Fylde Borough Council Reablement Team, who informed her about the help she was eligible to receive from Cosy Homes in Lancashire (CHiL).
CHiL is an organisation that works collaboratively with all of the Lancashire district authorities, including Lancashire County Council, to provide a range of energy efficiency measures to help people like Irene live in warmer homes. We do this through a combination of expert advice and financial help through grants when funding is available.
At present, CHiL have access to funding until 2022, so that first-time central heating can be installed in homes just like Irene’s - completely free-of-charge. And because the grant is available to everyone who’s on either a means-tested benefit or a low income, residents can apply whether the property is owner-occupied or rented.
FREE central heating installation can be accessed through your local council or via Rhea Projects Ltd, who are administering the grant scheme on behalf of CHiL. Contact Rhea Projects direct on 03306 061 488.
Remember, CHiL has been established to help the most vulnerable people in Lancashire avoid cold-related illnesses and poor health, and because we use our in-house Gas Safe Heating Engineers , you can have peace of mind that the installation is as safe and efficient as possible.
All the work we undertake is inspected for safety, and every boiler is guaranteed for a minimum of 5 years (if regularly serviced).
Following contact with CHiL, Irene now enjoys a full gas central heating system in her home, and has recently thrown out the expensive electric heater! Irene not only feels warmer, but the damp issues have been eradicated too, and she’s now much more comfortable having friends and family round to visit her at home.
If you know someone like Irene who would benefit from central heating, and is either on a means-tested benefit or is struggling to keep on top of their fuel bills, contact us and find out how we can help.
