Solar Thermal Hot Water Heating systems

Solar Thermal heating is an available measure on the Home Upgrade Grant. To be eligible for this measures your house must have no gas central heating and must have an EPC Rating od D, E, F or G. If your house qualifies then you need to qualify by having a householdincome of less than £30,000 per year.

Solar thermal heating uses energy from the sun to warm water for storage in a cylinder or thermal store. Because the amount of solar energy varies depending on the time of year a solar thermal heating system will not provide 100% of the hot water required throughout the year. A conventional boiler or immersion heater is normally used as a back up.

Most solar hot water systems are designed to provide the hot water used for baths, showers and hot taps and not for heating purposes.
